The skills and exercises we teach you will make your classical and contemporary speeches the best showcase of your talents and abilities.
Anyone 16+ that is considering applying to drama school or has already put in an application is welcome! Whether you're studying or working or ... gap yearing, applying for your first, second or third time our workshops provide a supportive and collaborative environment to grow and develop as an actor whilst using industry techniques and approaches (taught at drama schools) to deepen your acting skill.
The day cover skills on:

Bring at least one contemporary(modern) monologue and one Shakespearian monologue. We will have a selection also - but bring anything you've got that you think is worth a go!
The intensive drama school auditioning day course starts at 10am and has breaks throughout with lunch at 1pm and concludes at 5pm. The workshop is led by the founder of Compass Studio Exeter, a working professional actor & voice actor and director, giving you in depth knowledge, professionals skills and techniques.
We recommend wearing comfortable loose clothing you can move freely in. Think about what you would wear for first day of your drama school training about to walk in to your first acting, movement or voice class.
You'll gain valuable insights, receive personalised feedback, and meet other actors in a similar position. This is a great opportunity to start your journey and grow as an actor and hone your skills. The objective is that this training will enable you to hold your head up high as your walk out of the audition knowing you did everything in your power to do a quality audition.
This workshops take place at The Exeter Phoenix in Exeter (Top Studio - 2nd floor). More info below!

Day intensive VO Workshop & 1:1 Online Coaching
"Compass has been brilliant at introducing me to the world of voice - focusing on technique, and expanding my comfort zone and my knowledge without feeling overwhelmed.

The feedback I get is implementable, and Jamie is always a quick email away should I have questions. Whether you're looking to delve into adverts, audiobooks, documentaries or video games, Compass coaching is a great place to start."
Throughout the sessions I was impressed by Jamie’s expertise, professionalism and positive energy. I valued his insight and constructive feedback and direction and especially his guidance when it came to choosing extracts for my voice reels. His skills were invaluable in working collaboratively to achieve great results and his enthusiasm and sense of fun in both the workshops and in the recording studio supported me in finding my best performance. The whole process was enjoyable and productive and I would definitely go back to Jamie."
and his patience and candor helped tremendously in making the whole thing seem manageable.
He's got fantastic energy and insight, and he gave me the confidence to pursue voiceover more seriously and to commit on making my first reel, which is something I've wanted to do for a very long time.
It's great to know that he's got my back in the future to call upon, and would highly recommend especially for those who like me were coming in with a lot more questions than answers."
He has always been kind and encouraging and his insightful love of words, phrases, and interpretative nuance has proved invaluable.
I would also recommend him to any amateur thespians seeking to improve their knowledge and understanding of the delivery of text. Still hesitating? - rest assured you won't regret seeking his advice. "
