Introduction to voice acting and voice over

This is a single session workshop that will give you the basics in getting started as a voice over artist. You will learn how to record and practice at home as well as how to work and perform texts like a professional.

The Session is 3 hours long with a break in the middle.

Through the session you will be given a taste of the work on offer in the voice over industry and a chance to play at it for yourself. We will work on scripts and techniques and skills for narration, radio drama, animation, gaming and advertising.

The workshop is led by the founder of Compass Studio, a working professional voice actor and director, who will lift the veil on what the professionals do and show you real industry techniques and skills.

The sessions cover skills on:

This masterclass is a deep dive in to acting in front of the microphone. Our source material will be scenes from contemporary plays and audio dramas.

The session will focus on a series of scene studies working with other actors to bring a scene truly to life. There will be a couple of acting exercises however the focus of this masterclass is maximum rehearsal and recording time. This session gives you the chance to really hone your voice acting skills whilst getting used to taking professional direction from a director.

Always wanted to bring a scene you love to life? Bring it! The last part of the session will be a chance to choose your own scene and scene partner and record it. (There will be plenty of options if you don't want to bring a scene don't worry!)

A treasure trove of information on the technical side of recording at home, auditioning and how to make your first steps in to the industry.

Set 2: How to record from home & early career opportunities.

Lots of detailed information is gone through methodically to give you, as a new voice actor/ voice over, all the knowledge you need to get started on your own. From which cables, microphones & computer software to what sound treatment to use.

We will consider which websites you could sign up to and how to market yourself to agents, studios & casting directors.

It is strongly recommended that you attend the SET 1 Workshops first. This is a more advanced class and a lot of the skills will be referenced throughout which that have been explained in detail during SET 1.

This event is designed as a practical presentation with lots of information rather than a full on workshop - though volunteers will be needed to jump on the mic throughout the event.
